GRAND OPENING OF LAEMMLE’S CLAREMONT 5 CINEMA TO BENEFIT THE CLAREMONT MUSEUM OF ART

THURSDAY, JULY 26, 2007
5:30 P.M.: SPECIAL RECEPTION
7:00 P.M.: SCREENING OF MOLIèRE
Claremont, CA (July 17, 2007)—Join Laemmle Theatres and the Claremont Museum of Art on Thursday, July 26, 2007, for an exclusive opening of the new Claremont 5 Cinema. The event will feature a special wine and hors d’ oeuvres reception at 5:30 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. screening of the French romantic comedy/drama Molière. The evening will conclude with gourmet coffee and dessert. All proceeds benefit the Claremont Museum of Art.

“We’re excited and thankful to Laemmle Theaters for their support of the Museum,” said Museum Executive Director William Moreno. “This event marks the next phase in the birth of a very interesting cultural expansion. Art and cinema – particularly with Laemmle’s proven programming – are excellent partners.”

Greg Laemmle, President of Laemmle Theaters, agrees. After hearing about the Museum in an L.A. Times article, he was intrigued, and also delighted that it would be located in the same community as the theater. “So, on my next visit to the Cinema site, I stopped by the Packing House and visited the Museum, and it just felt right to work together to help open the theater.”

Receiving rave reviews, director Laurent Tirard’s Molière is a fictionalized account of the 17th Century French playwright Jean-Baptiste Poquelin dit Molière, played in the film by actor Romain Duris. Film Reviewer Jeffrey Lyons of NBC’s Reel Talk said this about the film:

“Molière is a gorgeous romantic drama. In fact, it’s the French answer to ‘Shakespeare in Love,’ with lavish costumes, incredible backdrops, a real sense of the period, and wonderful performances sure to be a contender for one of the best films of the year.” Run time is 120 min.

The benefit event precedes the official opening day of the Cinema. When the theater opens to the public on July 27, it will be the city’s only movie house, as the Village Theater on the corner of Bonita and Harvard Avenues was converted several years ago into a mixed-use complex with a restaurant and boutiques. Tickets to the benefit are $75 per person or $125 per couple and may be reserved by calling Evonne Gallardo at 909-621-3200 x.103 or by visiting the museum. Claremont 5 Cinema is located in the new West Village Expansion area of downtown at 450 West 2nd Street in Claremont. (Enter on 1st Street. Parking is available in the 1st Street parking garage.)
